Just some of what we’ve achieved with parents and carers through working together…
Practical sessions on healthy eating
Parents asked for some sessions on healthy eating and cooking together as a family. So, we organised for Aspire to deliver sessions for parents to cook on their own and as a family, creating healthy meals together.
Information sessions on special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
Parents told us they wanted more information on SEND activities, the support available in the local area and sessions that they can attend to learn more about additional needs. We arranged for Wakefield Inclusion and Special Educational Needs / Disabilities Support Service (WISENDSS) to deliver a session at a time that worked for our parents, and covered sensory seeking and a specialist group that parents can attend. We also arranged for KidsAware to deliver two sessions about the support they offer.
A brand new group
There is now a weekly Family Time SEND session at Cedars Family Hub in Hemsworth after parents and carers at the Family Voice Meeting fed back there wasn’t a lot to do for children aged 5-11 outside of school, especially for those with additional needs. Now, this new session, designed with families, helps to meet the needs of children and their families.
Summer activities and qualifications
Parents and carers from Family Voice have helped to plan summer activities at the Family Hubs. Families have chosen the date, activities and helped to organise resources, and promote to families. Some parent volunteers who attend the Family Voice meetings have obtained their Food Hygiene qualifications through the Family Hubs and supported food prep on the day of their planned summer activity, alongside one of the Family Hub team.
Making friends and peer support
The Family Voice Meetings bring together parents and carers that share their experiences and collaborate ideas. Some Family Voice groups have developed peer support groups and meet up outside of the Family Hub for family activities and days out.
