Wakefield Recovery and Wellbeing College

Wakefield Recovery and Wellbeing College provides short, free-of-charge (for everyone), wellbeing-focused courses and workshops to any member of the public aged 16+ (our oldest attendee is in their 90s!). Our small groups, offered both face-to-face in various venues across the Wakefield District and online via Microsoft Teams, are co-produced by people with professional and lived experience, providing a supportive environment to empower you to learn more about and take control of your own health and wellbeing (or that of someone you support), helping you to live your best quality of life.

Our informal college offers the opportunity to learn from each other, with no tests, exams, assessments or classroom layouts. Our courses and workshops cover topics around understanding and managing mental health and wellbeing, understanding and managing physical health and wellbeing, physical activity (with a fun approach) and hobbies/new skills.

We adapt our sessions as needed to suit your requirements and you can bring someone with you for support (they just need to enrol and secure a place for themselves as well).

Support to Stop Smoking and Vaping

If you are over 18 get free help to go smokefree.  Yorkshire Smokefree provides expert NHS advice and support for anyone who wants to stop smoking.  When you’re ready to quit, friendly experts will help you find the best way to quit and provide support throughout your journey, so you’re smoke-free in no time.  Call free from a landline on 0800 612 0011 or free from most mobiles on 03306601166.  Or find out more at Yorkshire Smokefree

Vapes or e-cigarettes can be helpful in giving up smoking, as they don’t contain the harmful chemicals as cigarettes, however, they are not risk free.  Vapes do contain chemicals that, as yet, we do not fully understand the long-term health effects.  They still contain nicotine, which is an addictive substance that can affect young people’s brains more so than in adults. You can find more information about Vaping from FRANK at Vapes | FRANK (talktofrank.com)
