Join Wakefield Council as a ‘Fostering Friendly’ employer

Wakefield Council have recently been officially accredited as a ‘fostering friendly’ employer as part of a scheme by leading fostering charity, The Fostering Network.
The council updated their policies to allow employees to request flexible working arrangements and take paid leave to attend assessment sessions, training, approval panel, and any initial settling in period for a child. Once approved, there can also access protected time.
Nearly 40% of foster carers nationally combine fostering with other work, so it really is possible, but a supportive employer can make all the difference.
With the need for more foster carers in Wakefield, the council are appealing to organisations and businesses to consider becoming a fostering friendly employer and supporting efforts to gain more foster carers to help make a positive difference to Wakefield’s children in care.
